Giant Bumble Bees!
Earlier this year I met with the organisers of Homegrown Food Festival in Northallerton and suggested that they base activities at this year’s festival around a theme in order to focus creativity. As the Bumble Bee is having a particularly tough time trying to avoid extinction at the moment I put forward the theme of the Bumble Bee as a means by which to raise awareness of their plight and hopefully educate visitors to the festival in ways in which they might be able to help “save the bee”!
As part of these efforts I worked with a number of local pre-school groups to create giant bumblebee sculptures and flowers out of recycled materials… here are a few photos of sculptures on display at the festival, which took place on Northallerton’s Applegarth on Sunday 26 June 2016…
The scupltures looked fantastic and were much admired, though most importantly, lots of little people had fun and learnt a lot in the making process, later taking great pride in seeing their work on prominent public display.
Special thanks go to Gill Hunton at Osmotherley Pre-School who generously donated lots of the materials used from her incredible Remida Room resource.
